Banff NP
As promised, I’m posting a second group of photos from my recent photo trip up the Ice Fields Parkway. It includes photographs from the two lakes we visited following Bow Lake, the subject of my previous post, on May 26.
I begin with this photograph of Peyto Lake, a location I’ve photographed and shared before. What’s unique about this picture is the ice on the lake. Normally, one would see the turquoise coloured water, the distinctive feature of Peyto Lake. The ice is in the late stages of melting, so there is some colour showing through. Not the usual turquoise, but a pleasant shade of blue.

This photo was taken, shooting up the valley from Peyto Lake. Its most prominent feature is one end of Silverhorn Mountain, bordering a valley below. To the left of the mountain is the Peyto Glacier, which feeds the lake. Water from the glacier can be seen flowing across the floor of the valley, toward the lake below.

The next two photographs were taken at Herbert Lake, both offering good views of Mount Temple, behind Lake Louise. This was our last stop on the way home. Both scenes are very familiar. It’s a small lake, which in my opinion offers a few good photographic scenes. However, what the lake lacks in numbers of scenes is offset by the beauty of the views down the lake.

I converted this last scene to black and white, inspired by similar photos taken by my companions, Bob and Stewart.

I’ve exhausted my backlog of raw photographs for now. I look forward to getting back out into the mountains in search of fresh material for a later post. At the same time, I’ll enjoy the opportunity to be out in the mountains, taking in and absorbing the amazing scenery.
You’re killing me, Peter beautiful shots. Stay safe. Stay well.
Great photos Peter. I especially like the clouds contrasting with the blue skies & snow capped peaks. The black & white photo is a great example of such contrasts.
